Squid Game Season 2: Global Fan Theories
Squid Game has fans worldwide, including in the US, Brazil, the UK, France, Malaysia, Indonesia and more. This means there is no shortage of speculative fan theories about what Season 2 will bring. Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun and Wi Ha-joon discuss the most interesting fan theories out there and give cryptic answers about what Squid Game Season 2 holds. Read our breakdown and watch the fan theory discussion below.
Character Changes
The first fan theory is that Seong Gi-hun’s pink hair in Season 1 implies he will become one of the pink soldiers. Next, Hwang Jun-ho tries to end the games but instead becomes a host. Another fan suggests that the Front Man becomes an animal mask-wearing VIP, while Seong Gi-hun is appointed the Front Man. However, Byung-hun says that while this theory is imaginative, it is far from the actual story. All three actors say we must wait and see how the characters have changed.

Staff Backstory
Many fans believe that Season 2 will revolve around the backstories of the Squid Game staff we saw in the first season. Wi Ha-joon agrees that this would be a fun way for Season 2 to develop, but he neither confirms nor denies the theory.
Red/Blue Ddakji
Someone suggested that when a player plays ddakji, the color of the game piece they choose determines their role in the games. For example, if you pick blue, you become a participant and red means you will be a soldier. Lee Byung-hun says that this fan is the only one who has thought of this theory, which made me chuckle.
Gi-hun’s Daughter
Another theory once again sees Seong Gi-hun as the host, but this time, he is forced to make a choice to save his now-grown daughter. Lee Jung-jae says this fan has a rich imagination and should join the Squid Game writing team. Perhaps there is some truth to this theory.

Political Bigwigs
Next is the speculation that the Squid Game will become worldwide, and the powerful people who fund the games will stop at nothing to keep things under wraps. Wi Ha-joon wonders who the Masked Leader of the VIPs is and believes his character, Jun-ho, would try to uncover their identity. It sounds like there may be some value in this theory. This would certainly make sense for the tenacious detective.
Seong Gi-hun Gets Revenge
Wouldn’t it be satisfying to see Seong Gi-hun get revenge on the loan sharks who helped him end up in Squid Game? This is a popular fan theory, but Lee Jung-jae suggests it goes against his character’s kind-hearted nature. Cut to a scene of Gi-hun from Season 1 violently stabbing something or someone.

Sports Festival Analogy
Last is the most forward-thinking fan theory, which suggests that the first Season of Squid Game was a national sports festival. Then, Season 2 will be like a trial for the national team with participants and games from other countries. Finally, Season 3 will be an international match similar to the World Cup. Lee Byung-hun confirms that there will be many new games in Season 2, but they will all be Korean.
Final Thoughts
Byung-hun suggests that the next season is more interesting than all of these fan theories put together. And from what we saw in the first season, I believe him. I cannot wait to see what demented games they have created for Season 2.
