Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is often praised by fans as the best Spider-Man film ever made. The film’s ending left the story open for more Spidey adventures. Sony has announced on Friday the sequel is coming on April 8, 2022. The announcement appeared on the film’s Twitter account.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller return to produce the sequel after a successful first film. Into the Spider-Verse established a multiverse in Spider-Man’s world, bringing together different versions of Spidey, including Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld). The different versions band together to bring down the big bad of the film, Kingpin (Liev Schrieber). The other Spideys eventually return to their universe and all is well until Spider-Gwen calls Miles for back up. The end credits introduced Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) as Spider-Man 2099. That could give us some clues as to what may be coming in the sequel.
Is this the Spider-Man franchise we deserve? I do think so. Animation gives the fans all of the special effects that are difficult to create in live action. So the possibilities are endless for this franchise. April 2022 is so far away, but that means Sony is making a great film. Check back with Geek Girl Authority for the latest news on this film.
