On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, a new Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer was released. In addition to showing off more of the Spider-cast, this trailer gives us a better idea of the sequel’s story.

Across the Spider-Verse

The Spider-Verse began on the big screen with 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Soon, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) will return to the multiverse. This time, it looks like he’ll be facing off against the most dangerous antagonist of them all: himself. As the trailer unfolds, Miles joins Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld) to visit an interdimensional meeting place for Spider-Man variants. This was organized by Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac), who first appeared in an end credits scene for the first movie.

But has Miles made new friends or new antagonists? Soon our main Spider-Man makes decisions that don’t comport with the Spider-Majority’s whims. By the end of the Across the Spider-Verse trailer, many of the Spider-Variants have turned on our hero, including Miguel. Be careful, Miles: with a third movie in the Spider-Verse saga scheduled for March 2024, Across the Spider-Verse can easily end on a cliffhanger.

In addition to facing other Spider-Variants, Miles will meet The Spot (Jason Schwartzman). This supervillain can open interdimensional gateways, including extremely localized portals. He uses this ability to commit crimes and accomplish uncanny antics.
