Welcome to a new segment here on Geek Girl Authority that I’ve dubbed Soundtrack Saturday. In this weekly installment, I’ll be breaking out my air guitar and best pair of headphones to bring our readers playlists inspired by our favorite characters.
The rules are simple: no character is off limits. They can be from a book, movie, podcast, TV show etc. And the music doesn’t have to be from the same era as the character.
To kick things off, I’ve complied a list of some sweet tunes inspired by my favorite character from my favorite TV show: Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things! Billy (Dacre Montgomery) is a main character and a secondary antagonist that was introduced to the Stranger Things universe in season 2.
He’s also the epitome of an 80’s teen bully. With a nasty tendency to pick on our beloved Steve (Joe Keery) and trying to run over unsuspecting children, he wasn’t a crowd favorite right off the bat. But with his character arc and the season 3 finale, it looks like he’s growing on people (including me). Great hair (sorry, Steve), cool car, bad temper, a sad home life, the dude made an impression.
So let’s get to it! Welcome to a little number I’ve decided to call Billy Hargrove’s Headbangers. A musical cocktail of punk, metal and aggro rock that’s best paired with road rage. Or doing the Mind Flayer’s bidding. Your call, kid.
Cherry Pie by Warrant
Negative Creep by Nirvana
(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) by Beastie Boys
Blow by Ed Sheeran (with Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars)
Top of the Bill by Scorpions
Magick Flute by Babes in Toyland
Colors by Halsey
Okay, you caught me. It’s not really a headbanger. But after season 3 I think a little bit of angst is necessary.
Dr. Feelgood by Mötley Crüe
Only You by Frightwig
Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard
Girls, Girls, Girls by Mötley Crüe
School by Nirvana
Poison by Alice Cooper
Shout At the Devil by Mötley Crüe
Angel by Aerosmith
What was your favorite song on this list? Was there one we should’ve included? Let us know! Catch up with Billy’s shenanigans in the 3rd season of Stranger Things, now streaming on Netflix!
