In even MORE Spider-Man news, Variety is reporting that Sony is planning to make an animated Spider-Man, slated for release in 2018. It will be based on a treatment written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the team behind such films as 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie. The film will also be produced by them, though there is no word if they will direct.

With the live-action Spider-Man existing in the MCU as well as on his own in the Sony-verse (is that a thing), the question is will this animated version of the wall-crawling hero exist all on its own or as a part of the larger universe. The answer is a vague both. According to Sony Pictures Chairman, Tom Rothman, who made the announcement at at CinemaCon in Vegas, the film will “co-exist” with the live-action Spider-man universe. However, the press release then goes on to clarify that, “The film will exist independently of the projects in the live-action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing.”
