Morbius is the latest film to be delayed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sony made the announcement today that the release date is moving from March 19 to later this fall. The film was originally scheduled to release in July 2020.
Jared Leto stars as Biochemist Michael Morbius. Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead. Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson and Jared Harris also star in the film, with Michael Keaton making an appearance. Daniel Espinosa directs the screenplay written by Matt Sazama and Buck Sharpless.
Once again, the coronavirus is to blame. And since Morbius is one of Sony’s few Marvel movies, the studio doesn’t want to take a chance on premium video on demand. As of now, there aren’t many major releases hitting the theaters anytime soon. Sony’s Cinderella, starring Camila Cabello and Billy Porter is set for February 5. And Disney and 20th Century’s The King’s Man, starring Matthew Goode, Ralph Fiennes and Gemma Arterton will still premiere on March 12. These films will like go to Video-on-Demand in the coming weeks.
Sony’s Morbius will now premiere on October 19, 2021.
