New SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Trailer Highlights Han’s History

Updated on:

Last night we were gifted our first look at Solo: A Star Wars Story. The 45 second ad introduced a dark and gritty galaxy with the Empire reigning. This morning we received the full trailer and honestly guys, my expectations have been raised. With all the drama the film has been through, the hope and excitement for this Star Wars story has been lukewarm at best. But these trailers have been pretty promising so let’s talk about it.

We get a bit of background on Han’s history – running scams on the streets at 10, being kicked out of the Flying Academy for “having a mind of [his] own”. But he’s determined to be the best pilot in the galaxy. Woody Harrelson‘s Beckett puts together a crew – for what, we don’t know. But that crew includes Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), Qi’Ra (Emilia Clarke) and an unnamed Thandie Newton. Plus a small alien who may be played by Paul Bettany. We also get a better look at our villain, with a crew of his own and a distinct mask. The crew is reminiscent of a tribal feel with furs and ornate armor. But the leader seems to be one hell of a fighter! Han will definitely be in over his head facing these guys.

The trailer didn’t last much longer than the teaser spot but we did get to see a bit more imagery and a ton of action. While I’m really digging the aesthetics of the film, it needs to be noted that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of fun in this. It’s a stark contrast from what we believe we were going to get with Lord and Miller behind the wheel. Was Lawrence Kasdan‘s script truly that heavy in drama? I’m still not quite sold on Alden Ehrenreich as Han but we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for more footage in the coming months until it’s release. But! I’m still more excited than I was previously.

Let us know what you think of the trailer! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more on Solo.
