Audrey and Bess hold each other, facing in profile. Audrey, on the left, wears a white, short-sleeved blouse over an olive green thermal shirt and her hair is tied back with a band. Bess's hair is rumpled. She has on a dark blue short sleeved shirt over grey thermals on Snowpiercer Season 4 Episode 2, "The Sting of Survival."

I’m not sure about y’all, but seeing Miss Audrey (Lena Hall) and Bess Till (Mickey Sumner) commit to being together at the end of Snowpiercer Season 3 was the biggest feels of that finale for me. So, when Layton (Daveed Diggs) pulls Audrey out of the track scaler, my first thought was, “Where’s Bess?”

While we are still very much concerned with the whereabouts of Layton and Zarah’s (Sheila Vand) kidnapped baby, Liana, Season 4 Episode 2, “The Sting of Survival,” takes place primarily on the train, nine months in the past, after Knox (Iddo Goldberg) and Till have been ambushed by Admiral Milius (Clark Gregg) and his helmeted minions.

Milius looks to his left, dressed in a environmental protective and armored scruffed-up white suit, carrying his helmet (emblazoned with a blue anchor) under his right arm. Snowpiercer Season 4 Episode 2

Snowpiercer’s “The Sting of Survival”

After Big Alice’s reappearance at the end of Season 1 and discovering Asha in Season 3, it’s almost unsurprising that more survivors keep cropping up. Humanity is tenacious if nothing else. Milius’s crew is as threatening and dangerous as Wilford, if not as genteel.

While calling themselves the International Peacekeeping Forces, they come barreling onto the train with no interest in making friends. It’s amazing to see how quickly the citizens of Snowpiercer can revert to survival mode. This is a community that steps up no matter how overwhelming the foe is.

Heroes gonna hero. Expect to see Till and Knox leap into action, taking the hits and picking themselves up again. Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) shifts into mastermind mode, formulating plans based on her intrinsic understanding of the train. And joy of joys, Miles and Miles (Jaylin Fletcher) is back, putting his brilliant mind to work and learning from the best.

Miles works out equations on a glass board in the engine car. He wears a khaki toque that matches his jumpsuit and holds a manual open in his left hand. Several monitors can be seen mounted on the bulkheads around him and daylight streams in the large front windows.

What Is the Plan?

Milius is a soldier who follows orders even as he runs roughshod over the civil rights and liberties of the Snowpiercer residents. So, who does he report to? What are their plans for the train (and all the people on board)?

Can Snowpiercer withstand yet another wave of invaders, especially those as well-armed and trigger-happy as these? Would Till willingly let Audrey go off in a track scaler? What could’ve pushed the empathetic chanteuse to leave the train in such desperate transport?

Even more urgently, what does it all have to do with stealing Baby Liana? What is Layton capable of doing to get his daughter back?

The fourth and final season of Snowpiercer airs on AMC and AMC+ on Sundays at 9 pm/8c.
