Saturday Night Live kicked off season 42 with it’s highest rated season premiere ever and it was well deserved. SNL is off to a great start coming off the incredible summer of cast members, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. They definitely have a leg up, especially after McKinnon’s Emmy win just a couple of weeks ago.
Margot Robbie did a wonderful job as host, always game and up for the sketches, and The Weekend was the musical guest.
Here are some highlights from this weekends show:
- The Librarian – Personally, my favorite sketch of the night. It started off like it was maybe going in the direction of a typical lets show off the hot girl sketch and then just got weird. I loved it!
2. Hillary VS Donald Cold Open – Kate McKinnon, per usual, knocks it out of the park as Hillary and we got to see the genius debut of Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump.
3. Actress Round Table – Kate McKinnon has found her sweet spot as the out of place weirdo in the group and it’s brilliant. In this case its an actress round table. McKinnon plays the oldest actress in the group, and then proceeds to call out the differences generationally. The blatant sexism her character deals with etc…but in a funny way.
4. Mr. Robot – Leslie Jones and Pete Davidson take on the horrible hack Leslie Jones was victim to this summer. Again though, in a funny way.
5. Family Feud: Political Edition – Team Hillary vs Team Donald. This sketch was super fun and pulled out the heavy hitters. Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton, Bennett Beck as Vladimir Putin, Cecily Strong as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Larry David as Bernie Sanders, and newest cast member, Melissa Villasenor got to show off her superb Sarah Silverman. Loved this one!
Lin-Manuel Miranda will host next weeks show, October 8th, with musical guest, Twenty One Pilots.
