Syfy is putting a new spin on the “aliens infiltrating Planet Earth” trope with their new series, Hunters, which premieres on Monday, April 11th. Hunters is based on the best selling novel, Alien Hunter by Whitley Strieber.
The twist in this trope is that there is a secret homeland defense organization called the ETU (Exo-Terrorism Unit that deals with the extra-terrestrial threat. Another interesting part of the plot is that supposedly these aliens are akin to terrorists and have various cells scattered across the planet. Syfy stated that “Hunters will push boundaries by redefining what makes a terrorist and offer a unique crossover twist between gritty crime drama and sci-fi thriller.”

The sneak peek of the season premiere of Hunters is intense, exciting and even has few good jump scares to get your blood pumping. This is a fun and fresh idea for a new science fiction series. But if you still need convincing, the series has powerhouse executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead, Terminator) and Natalie Chaidez (Sara Connor Chronicles, 12 Monkeys). Both these women have well honed sci-fi skills and are known for their gritty tones and imaginative storytelling.
Here’s the official synopsis from Syfy:
From executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead, The Terminator trilogy) and Natalie Chaidez (12 Monkeys, Heroes), Hunters is inspired by Whitley Strieber’s best-selling novel, Alien Hunter, in which the disappearance of a decorated FBI agent’s wife leads him to a secret government unit assembled to hunt a group of ruthless terrorists – shadowy figures that may or may not be from this world.
The series stars Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek) as Flynn, a headstrong Baltimore FBI agent with a dark past trying to piece together the disappearance of his wife. Britne Oldford (American Horror Story) will play Regan, who is one of the government’s most valuable operatives and may be keeping secrets of her own. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) portrays McCarthy, an unhinged junkie and Hunter cell leader.
