THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR LAST NIGHT’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW IN THIS ARTICLE.
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE EPISODE OR DO NOT CARE ABOUT SPOILERS, PROCEED PAST THIS PIC OF A KITTY STEALING SOME TOAST.
Last night’s episode of CW’s newest DC Comics show, Legends of Tomorrow, was our first one beyond the two-part pilot, giving us our first real look at what we can expect of the team’s dynamics, more or less, throughout the rest of the season.
And those dynamics, as expected, are pitch perfect.
In their attempts to save Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renee) from knife fragments making their way to hear heart, we saw Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) and Martin Stein (Victor Garber) science’ing together, with the fragile Ray Palmer needing some ego-boosts from his wise but somewhat absent-minded mentor. We saw a softer side to Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller) who attempted to save his family the only way he knows how — thieving a precious jewel before his father can be caught doing the same thing. And we saw Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), ever the vigilant assassin, seeing through Rip Hunter’s (Arthur Darvill) confident bravado to know, despite all he knows and all he can do, he really truly has no plan at all — he’s making it all up as they go along.
The episode ends with them on their way to the future, going from the 79’s to the mid-80’s.
That’s where this sneak peek at next week’s episode comes in.
In it, we see Martin Donovan as Rip Hunter’s mentor, Druce, confronting Rip Hunter about what he’s done, having “turned his back on the exact institution you were meant to serve.” He then goes on to make an offer, calling upon Hunter to “end this foolish crusade.”
But Rip’s Legends don’t seem to take that well, with Jax (Franz Drameh) saying, “I thought you said this mission was bigger than anyone of us” and then ending with Captain Cold aiming his freeze gun directly at Rip, in his artifact-filled office, with Rip saying, “time to decide whether the future’s worth fighting for.”
The trailer we have here and the synopsis below don’t seem to match up in the least as we don’t see anything in this synopsis in the trailer and vice versa. But, all that really means is that the trailer has given us even more to look forward to in a show that’s proven itself to be an infinitely fun ride.
STEPHANIE CORNELIUSSEN (“MR. ROBOT”) GUEST STARS AS VALENTINA VOSTOCK – When Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) retreats behind the Iron Curtain in the early 1980s, a string of nuclear scientists begins to mysteriously disappear. The team follows Vandal’s trail straight into the heart of the Soviet Union in an attempt to find his next target. Ray (Brandon Routh) tries to bond with a beautiful Soviet scientist, Valentina Vostock (guest star Stephanie Corneliussen), in the hopes of finding out Vandal’s next move. When Valentina rejects him, it’s Snart (Wentworth Miller) to the rescue. Stein (Victor Garber) pushes Jax (Franz Drameh) to be better, which frustrates Jax and ultimately threatens the Firestorm matrix. Rip (Arthur Darvill) asks Sara (Caity Lotz) to train Kendra (Ciara Renée).
