They say big things come in small packages and if that holds true, then the first ever smallCon in Addison, Texas, promises something huge! The tiny, one day convention on Saturday, September 9, 2017, is geared toward women and girls of ALL AGES to encourage and promote interest in STREAM (Science + Technology + Robotics + Engineering + Arts + Mathematics) careers and services. Though the convention is aimed at women, everyone is allowed to buy a ticket and attend!

Attend to Learn

Panels and activites will be spread across three rooms of the Addison Convention Center from 9:30am to 6:30pm. One room will be dedicated to hands on activities like building with LEGO, learning to build a drone, doing science experiments, and even learning self defense. The other two rooms will feature panels and discussions from women in various STREAM positions, covering a range of topics from discovering the real science behind fictional characters to learning about historical strong women to hearing the behind the scenes scoop of how to create television shows as well as how the Alamo Drafthouse chooses their lineup. Various panels will also feature ladies in technology, engineering, science, and public relations. The “The Science Behind Beautry” panel will spill the secret as to what science it takes to create cosmetics. There will even be a panel on how to make your own way in the world with a DIY career!

Attend for Fun

Cosplay is not only encouraged, there will be a panel dedicated to learning about the history of cosplay. The only caveat is that any cosplay be respectful of the purpose of the convention: to showcase strong women.

Vendors will be on site with their art and products while exhibitors will showcase their products or companies. There will be plenty to look at and browse between panels and activities to keep you or your children involved and connected.

Attend to Help

In keeping with the promotion of women helping women, a portion of the money raised through ticket sales will be donated to the Women’s Center of Tarrant County. Tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for children 12 years to 18 years, and children under 12 get in for free.

I have my ticket in hand and am looking forward to the first ever smallCon this weekend. Will you join me?
