Shadow and Bone showrunner Eric Heisserer revealed to EW that he’s been quietly developing a Six of Crows series. It’s currently in the early stages and hasn’t been greenlit yet. However, there is a tentative plan in place to move ahead with the show depending on how season 2 of Shadow and Bone performs on Netflix. When asked how this came about, Heisserer told EW:
“One of the reasons, not all of them, that I got the privilege of working with Daegan Fryklind as co-showrunner in season 2 is that I was busy with the writers’ room for Six of Crows. We are ready to launch that as its own story. The eight-episode scripts are phenomenal and I’m really proud of my team for those.”
Heisserer also confirmed that part of the spin-off would take place during the season 2 finale of Shadow and Bone and cover the main events of author Leigh Bardugo‘s duology. Six of Crows originally came out in 2015, followed up by Crooked Kingdom in 2016. The books take place after the original Shadow and Bone series with a few scenes flashing back, but there are some scenes set in flashbacks as well.
