If you haven’t heard by now, Patrick Stewart is returning to the role that made him famous as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a new Star Trek series for CBS All Access. The legendary actor is already back at work, posting the following on Instagram.
Stewart is with the writing team that includes Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer, Akiva Goldsman, Diandra Pendleton-Thompson and James Duff. There are no details about the new series other than it will be a continuation of Picard’s story and not a reboot of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Whatever they come up with, I’m sure it will be amazing!
Stewart announced his return to the stars back in August at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fans went nuts on Twitter, after finally getting a wish they never thought would happen. Stewart portrayed Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987-1994 and in the four films that followed. Stewart was essentially done playing Picard after the 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis, moving on to new roles and new genres. I’m excited that he has changed his mind and will be bringing that Picard charm and wisdom back to the small screen.
For now, all details about the title, plot, additional cast and premiere date are under wraps. Check back with Geek Girl Authority for the latest news about this project.
Sir Patrick Stewart can be seen next in the Charlie’s Angels reboot.
