Fuck Cancer. Sorry for the cursing but I hate it. The BBC announced today that our War Doctor, Sir John Hurt, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
The first time I ever saw Mr. Hurt was in The Elephant Man. I had no idea who he was at the time, but my parents made me watch this movie at the age of three for educational purposes. I ran out of the room, terrified. To this day, it’s one of my favorite movies and even with all that makeup and prosthetics covering his face and body, his performance is unmatched.
When I heard the news today, it broke my heart. Pancreatic cancer is no joke and I began to muse over this man’s incredible career and I suppose I didn’t realize the profound influence he’s had in my life.
I mean consider his body of work…Midnight Express, The Elephant Man, Alien, History Of The World Part 1, 1984 (still one of my favorites), Spaceballs, Contact (another favorite), Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone, Hellboy, V For Vendetta, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (we forgive him for that), Hellboy 2, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows: Part 2, Snowpiercer, Doctor Who and those are just highlights!
We send you love, Mr. Hurt. We send prayers, good vibes, good thoughts, support and we wrap you in hugs.
