Jason Reitman is picking up the Ghostbusters mantle with a new Ghostbusters sequel to his father’s 1984 original. Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are both confirmed to appear in the cast of that new film. And, in an interview with Parade, Sigourney Weaver has confirmed that she’ll be joining them.
Weaver told Parade, “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!”, and confirmed that she’d be reprising her role as Dana Barrett. That’s all they got out of her, but it’s a pretty big deal. Sony, who is producing the sequel, declined to comment on Weaver’s announcement. But Reitman tweeted on June 4th that he has a surprise for fans that will be revealed at Ghostbusters Fan Fest in Los Angeles. So, it’s possible that Sony is just waiting for the younger Reitman to do his thing.

As Entertainment Weekly reported, the new Ghostbusters film will focus on a single mother and her family. Carrie Coon (Fargo, The Leftovers) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) have been rumored to be in talks to play “key roles.” And this movie is not a reboot. It takes place in the same world as the 1984 film. All that happened, then is true in this world. It is set in the present day aftermath of the events of 1984.
The new Ghostbusters film is set to be released July 10, 2020. Let’s run some red lights!!
