DISCLAIMER: This recap and review of Shoresy Season 3 Episode 4, “Brooks Barrelmen,” contains spoilers. Proceed at your peril.

“Brooks Barrelmen” is easily one of the show’s best episodes. It sheds light on the infamous NOSHO record party, which resulted in Frankie and Laurence breaking up and the fellas losing some hair. The party scenes emit major Letterkenny vibes. I also love how they’re shot and edited to mimic how one feels when high.

The comedy is on point, and the action, especially toward the end, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Shoresy’s massive injury sets the stage for how the final two episodes will play out. Here’s hoping our fave captain can bounce back.

Shoresy’s “Brooks Barrelmen”

We open with the Bulldogs celebrating their winning streak. It’s five weeks ago, during the NOSHO record party. Nat (Tasya Teles), Ziigwan (Blair Lamora) and Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) board the bus to encourage their boys to go all out that night. They deserve to blow off steam. Nat only has one rule: everyone must have fun. Shoresy (Jared Keeso) and Sanguinet (Harlan Kytwayhat) are relieved to hear this.

Next, the team returns to the Sudbury Arena to greet the roaring crowd of fans. Once they start drinking, the fellas decide to break their trophy out of its case so they can party with it. Then, we see the team dancing to a deejay. Dolo (JoDolo), Hitch (Terry Ryan), Goody (Andrew Antsanen) and Michaels (Ryan McDonell) smoke cigars on the dancefloor while passing around the trophy.

Give Shoresy the Nose Beer

Afterward, Goody and his lady, Britt (Celeste Ziegler), enter the bus to find Shoresy snoozing. Meanwhile, JJ Frankie JJ (Max Bouffard) has a private moment with Mercedes (Eliana Jones), cheating on Laurence Leboeuf. Goody and Britt try to wake up Shoresy. Mercedes proposes they give him some “nose beer.”

Then, Dolo delivers a speech to the crowd at the party. Shoresy, hopped up on nose beer, interrupts him. He asks the partygoers where they were when the team was losing. Where were they when Nat thought about folding the Bulldogs? A montage plays out, wherein a high Shoresy complains to Sanguinet, Michaels, Fish (Jacob Smith), the b’ys, the ladies and the Jims (Jon Mirasty, Brandon Nolan and Jordan Nolan) about fans not supporting them.

He’s high as a kite. So much so that Mercedes, Laurence, Britt, Pam (Michala Brasseur) and Mélodie (Amélie McGarrell) — Dolo’s lady — remark on his highness. Laurence learns that Mercedes was with Frankie on the bus. This must be the start of that relationship unraveling. Nat, Miig and Ziig join them. Mercedes wonders if she should give the whole team her “nose beer.”

Pants and Massages

Sure enough, giving the crew that collective high yields hilarious fruit. They all start massaging each other before removing their pants. Shoresy’s eye freaks out Goody. Everyone’s feelin’ fine. The ladies are equal parts amused and horrified.

Later, everyone takes to the dancefloor, even the boys sans pants. After that, the fellas reveal that they feel hot, particularly their heads. Shoresy and Michaels suggest they get haircuts. So, Dolo shaves off a bald spot on top of Shoresy, Goody, Hitch and Michaels’ heads. So, that’s where those spots came from. Hey, at least they feel somewhat cooler now. However, they don’t feel cool enough.

Thus, the team decides to go swimming. We see them all diving into a pool, some gracefully, others not so much. After that, they realize they’re still on fire. So, the gang takes the party to the ice. We see them lying on the ice in their undies. As someone in the Midwest right now during a nasty heatwave … that looks like heaven.

Late-Night Fun

Next, the fellas head home to their ladies for fun — Dolo and Mélodie, Hitch and Pam, Goody and Britt and Michaels and Mercedes. Shoresy carries the trophy to the locker room, where he lays down to get some shuteye.

Now, we fast forward to the present day. The boys do their required webinar with the kiddos. Naturally, Shoresy is a hit with them. Nat oversees the event. One kid asks Shoresy why their hair looks funny. Shoresy admits they all decided to shave part of their heads. They vowed not to fix it unless they win the National Senior Tournament. However, if they lose, they’ll be stuck with that hair until it grows out.

Meanwhile, we meet the “Freezer Twins,” the Brooks Barrelmen team’s most valuable players. Anik (Kim Cloutier) and Laura Mohr (Camille Sullivan) interview them. The Freezer Twins aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed. Their bodies are like marble, making them formidable in their own right. Even though the Brooks Barrelmen are embroiled in a losing streak.

Go Till You Can’t Go No More

Later, before taking to the ice, Anik chats with Shoresy. Shoresy promises to give the Bulldogs’ opponent a good show. They’re gonna go till they can’t go no more.

Sure enough, the Bulldogs give ‘er hell. Both teams battle it out on the ice. They’re currently both at zero. Shoresy and Sanger argue rather loudly, which Liam (Keegan Long) and Cory (Bourke Cazabon) catch on video. I’ve never seen Sanguinet and Shoresy this angry with each other.

Shoresy urges Sanger to put the Jims, our favorite beauties, on the ice. Finally, despite being hurt, Shoresy hops on without Sanger’s approval. He antagonizes the Barrelmen. Suddenly, one of the opposing team’s players barrels into him, knocking him down flat.

Later, the team stands before Shoresy in the locker room. He has that 1,000-yard stare. Methinks he’s had one too many concussions. They ask Shoresy if he’s ready to be on TV. Our titular mother-loving chirper admits he’s not. He’s not ready at all. Uh-oh.
