DISCLAIMER: This recap of Shoresy Season 2 Episode 5, “The Man Advantage,” contains spoilers. Proceed at your peril.
That calendar came back to bite him in the ass. It was a given, just as Big Sexy is prone to blurt out “tit f*cker” at inopportune times.
The Letterkenny spinoff’s penultimate episode, “The Man Advantage,” delightfully sets the stage for the Season 2 finale, which will pin the Sudbury (Blueberry) Bulldogs against the Soo Hunt in Michigan. Shoresy‘s penchant for heart arrives in full force here; with these characters we’ve grown to love evolving in exciting ways.
It’s a blast, brimming with cheeky humor, clever dialogue and fun performances. It also mines the depths of our titular captain and reminds us why he’s more than what we’ve seen on Letterkenny. He’s a good egg.
Ready to delve into “The Man Advantage”? Let’s get to it.

We open with the Sudbury Bulldogs squaring off against the North Bay Norsemen. It’s brutal. After the game, Shoresy (Jared Keeso) yields the floor to Coach Sanguinet (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat), who delivers a post-match speech in the locker room. Shoresy gives the Jims (Jon Mirasty, Jordan Nolan, Brandon Nolan) three sticks for turning sh*t around. Not only are they killing it at Reach for the Top, but they’re back to setting the tone on the ice.
Then, Shoresy hands Michaels (Ryan McDonell) a stick. He gets to eat it before everyone else. Michaels has held down the fort for the season. However, Shoresy refuses to let Michaels speak. It’s still business as usual in that regard. Ziigwan (Blair Lamora) pops in to tell Shoresy and Sanguinet that Nat wants to see them. This moment cracks me up, especially Ziig’s response to Shoresy’s question about what she’d do if a player had their dick out.
Next, we see Ziigwan and Miigwan (Keilani Elizabeth Rose) flanking Nat (Tasya Teles) as she informs Shoresy he’s meeting with the NOSHO League the following day for his behavior in the Norsemen game. Uh-oh. Shoresy discloses his attraction to all three women of the League, Danis in particular. Perhaps he can turn on the charm. However, Nat forbids him from speaking. Nat, Miig and Ziig will speak on his behalf. That’s probably for the best.

Later, Shoresy, Dolo (JoDolo), Hitch (Terry Ryan), Sanguinet and Goody (Andrew Antsanen) meet at Peppi Panini (home of the Pitter-Patter Panini) to discuss a new development on the JJ Frankie JJ front. Frankie’s calendars are selling so well among the gay community despite his latest romantic scandal that they want him to participate in an event. Nat has organized “The Man Advantage,” a gay night centered on Frankie at The Coulson. The fellas believe he won’t make an appearance. Why? He hasn’t left his room since his ex-girlfriends publicly called him out on Hey! You Guys.
Pam (Michala Brasseur), the waitress, flirts with Hitch as they talk about music. This isn’t the first time they’ve flirted on this show. I wouldn’t be surprised if they become an item. Michaels arrives, revealing he’s rekindling his romance with Mercedes — even though she gave Sanger a squeezer off the side of a Party Island in Wasaga Beach.
The guys warn against getting back together with Mercedes. Michaels tells them he’s meeting with Mercedes to discuss settling their debts with the Policetti brothers. Sanguinet should probably tag along to smooth out the debt settlement process. Later, Sanguinet and Michaels sit with Mercedes (Eliana Jones), who blatantly flirts with Sanguinet even though he’s dating Miig. She orders Michaels to be quiet while they chat. Angelo Policetti (Daniel Pupella) watches them from afar. His brother is MIA.

Mercedes invites Sanguinet and his cousin (and Miigwan) to have fun with her at The Man Advantage event for Frankie. Michaels asks if he and Mercedes can grab wine together, but she brushes him off. Aw. Poor guy. Meanwhile, Shoresy, Dolo and Goody watch TV while Hitch looks for Frankie. Big Sexy perches atop Shoresy’s head, yelling out “tit f*cker” intermittently. They devise a method to get Frankie out of his room to attend his event. Unfortunately, Frankie doesn’t budge.
Then, Shoresy meets Nat, Miigwan and Ziigwan outside. They’re riding together for their meeting with the NOSHO League. Mercedes calls Shoresy to her limo, where Angelo sits next to a bloody corpse. You know, standard mob stuff. Mercedes warns that if Frankie doesn’t show up tonight, he’ll wind up like the guy on Angelo’s left. Uh-oh.
Later, Nat, Shoresy, Miig and Ziig stand before the NOSHO League: Aki (Lisa Cromarty), Nina (Joelle Peters) and Danis (Waneek Horn-Miller). The trio decides to punish Shoresy for beating that one Norsemen player to a pulp. Sure, he didn’t break any bones, and he still has all his teeth, but it’s against league rules. They opt to suspend Shoresy for the rest of the season, which includes the big match in Michigan against the Soo Hunt — the Bulldogs’ last hurrah that could help them break a league record.

Nat defends Shoresy, reminding the trio before them that the players, and only the players, make the rules on the ice. They’re the driving force. People watch Senior AAA Hockey, hoping these guys beat the snot out of each other. Shoresy also pivots, revealing he’s attracted to all three of them. He wants to have drinks with their husbands to ask them how they did it. Thankfully, it works, and they backtrack on their original decision. Shoresy is free to play. He starts crying. Nat awkwardly holds him. It’s adorable.
Then, Shoresy winds up on Laura’s (Camille Sullivan) doorstep. He reveals he’s not getting suspended. However, Laura’s window to pursue him is closing. He might seal the deal with Danis. Shoresy wants Laura to accompany him to The Man Advantage that night. Maybe they can have fun together.
Later, Laurence Laboeuf returns. She reunites with Frankie (Max Bouffard), who looks happier than ever. Laurence chats with Shoresy and the others. She asserts the Québécois stand by their own. They all pile into Mercedes’ limo, making a beeline for The Coulson. Frankie escorts Laurence into the club, followed by the Bulldogs. Everyone takes to the dancefloor. Shoresy catches Laura’s eye at the bar. Pam sidles up to Hitch, and the pair decide to leave together.
After the event, Shoresy and Laura sit outside. Laura asks why someone significantly older than his teammates works extra hard. He’s the first to arrive and the last to depart. He participates in all the outside activities. Shoresy claims that hockey is where he feels most like himself. I love this speech. It shows us who Shoresy truly is — chirping and mother-loving aside. His words move Laura. When her cab arrives, she invites him back to her place. It’s finally happening, y’all. Shoresy’s getting his wish.
