Director David F. Sandberg stormed the Hollywood scene with the horror hit, Lights Out. Since then, he’s been taking on a few projects, one of them being the untitled Shazam movie. While promoting his second film, Annabelle: Creation, he spoke with Film Riot and gave us a nugget of information regarding the superhero film.

While we have no other information for the Shazam movie, apparently it’s next up to film. “There’s a script. And it’s the next DC movie to shoot.” With a 2019 release date, we would think that casting would be announced at this point, but not yet. The director re-confirmed that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s Black Adam will not be in the film, after going through a series of rewrites with him in and out of it. As for what Sandberg’s inspiration will be for the comics, we may be seeing some ol’ fashion Captain Marvel.

I’m taking it all in. Some of those really old ones are quite fun. When he’s like fighting Hitler and stuff like that. Cause he’s been around since the 40s, since around Superman. There’s a lot to read and that’s also interesting because he sort of has like a couple of different origin stories. Or a couple of different takes on it. You have the most recent sort-of Geoff Johns version and then you have the [Jerry] Ordway versions and those really old versions.

After Justice League comes out, we may be seeing more regarding the film. For now, we sit tight with the little information we have.

What do you think of Sandberg’s comments? Are you looking forward to a Shazam-focused film? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more DCEU news!
