Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton will continue to make his mark in the Marvel universe. As reported by Deadline, Cretton inked a multi-year overall deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective to produce content for the mega-companies.

According to Deadline, the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer and director is developing a new MCU-related series for Disney Plus. But that’s not all! Cretton will return to helm and write the script for the highly anticipated Shang-Chi sequel!

Besides creating the second Shang-Chi film, Cretton’s new deal enables him to produce TV projects across all platforms via his production company Family Owned, which he runs with partner Asher Goldstein

Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige had this to say regarding Cretton’s deal:

Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney Plus, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu LiuAwkwafinaMeng’er ZhangMichelle YeohFala Chen and Tony Leung, and it opened over Labor Day weekend. The project marks the first MCU property led by an Asian actor and starring a predominantly Asian cast.

It amassed $94.6 million its opening weekend and raked in $224.5 million total, becoming the highest-grossing domestic release in the pandemic. Shang-Chi also grossed close to $432 million globally.

As of now, there are no plot or cast details regarding the Shang-Chi sequel, and we know nothing about Cretton’s Marvel Disney Plus series.

I’m psyched about the Shang-Chi sequel, and I’m excited to see what else Cretton has in store for the MCU. Bring it on, I say!
