Highlights
- Apple TV+ revealed the first teaser trailer for Severance Season 2. In it, Adam Scott’s Mark Scout returns to Lumon Industries to find that some things have changed.
- The teaser promises to follow through on Mark’s Season 1 discovery that his dead wife isn’t actually dead but working (aka trapped) full-time in Lumon.
- In the montage of the teaser we can see that the inner mechanics of Lumon remain entrenched in an uncanny symbolism, sinister ritual, and cold reductivism that underscores the dangers of corporate cultism.

Apple TV+’s Severance
As Milchick (Tramell Tillman) understates in the trailer below, “Been a minute.” Severance Season 1’s finale aired on Apple TV+ on April 8, 2022. Nearly three years later, we’re finally getting Season 2 and it promises to be just as absurd, surreal, and thrilling as the first.
According to the Apple TV+ site, “In Severance, Mark Scout leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. In Season 2, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.”

Several new regular cast members will appear in Season 2. This includes Gwendoline Christie, John Noble, Alia Shawkat, Merritt Wever, Robby Benson, Bob Balaban, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Stefano Carannante, and Sarah Bock. (No word so far on who they play but Bock looks like she could be Mark and Gemma’s daughter. Just my first impression.) Christie’s character appears briefly in the release date announcement teaser that dropped in August.

Getting the Band Together Again. Not.
The newbies join the established ensemble of “innie”s and “outie”s we got to know back in 2022. Alongside Adam Scott’s Mark and Tillman’s Milchick, Zach Cherry’s Dylan, Britt Lower’s Helly, Jen Tullock’s Devon, Michael Chernus’s Ricken, John Turturro’s Irving, Patricia Arquette’s Cobel, and Christopher Walken’s Burt return. Dichen Lachman is also back as Ms. Casey whom we now know is Mark’s thought-dead wife, Gemma.
The Season 1 finale also revealed that Helly is not a typical Lumon employee. Her outie, Helena Eagan, the daughter of Lumon’s CEO who underwent severance to build public support for legalizing the procedure. When Helly, as an innie, requested resignation, Helena recorded a message back denying the request. In desperation, Helly attempted suicide which failed. Now we know why Helena couldn’t allow Helly to resign.

No Sign of the Baby Goats
The official teaser for Season 2 provides glimpses of various bewildering scenarios, infused with a new sense of urgency as Mark tries to reconcile the innie world with the outie reality. The blur of memories and thoughts and images culminates in the question, “What is it we actually do here?”
What is Lumon’s purpose? What is everyone hiding? How are Mark’s sister and other outie relationships reflected in the connections within Lumon? Why would they take Mark’s wife and let him believe she had died? And what about the baby goats? Seriously. I need to know what they do with the baby goats.
Severance Season 2 premieres on January 17, 2025. The complete first season of “Severance” is now streaming on Apple TV+.
