Tomorrow, we’ll all have our hands on the digital release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. But up to it’s release, we’ve had a few little snippets here and there of bonus content and this is a cute little one to share. While team porg will have to wait a bit longer, we have a glimpse at how the crew approached creating the vulptex. There’s a cute dog involved!
In a larger featurette called “Showdown on Crait”, they dive into the creation of the vulptex. Director Rian Johnson wanted a creature that felt indigenous to the planet, something that would evolve from the planet’s environment. An artist had created a crystal fox but with larger and harder shapes. But when Johnson asked for something more elegant, the vulptex was decided upon in a clear crystalline fox. They also created a suit with crystals on it to test on a very energetic and cute dog to see how the crystals would work practically.
It’s a truly fascinating process. Seeing it come from a concept piece to a practical object is always an interesting thing to see. Though we’re only shown a small fraction of the work that goes into the films, you can understand how much work went into creating these beautiful creatures. I really cannot wait to dive into every little bit of information and footage they’ll let us see in the release.
Check out the video below and let us know what you think! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Star Wars news. The Last Jedi comes to computer screens tomorrow(!), March 13th and Blu-Ray on March 27th.
