According to an article out of Hollywood Reporter over the weekend, Saturday was a very important day for all of us Spider-Man fans as Marvel held a secret casting session in Atlanta with six young actors all vying for one of the biggest parts in the world right now.
But wait, wasn’t Asa Butterfield already offered the role? As the Reporter says, “Reports that Butterfield had been offered the role were false, as Marvel is only now in the midst of its decision.”
So who are the six lucky actors auditioning?
Tom Holland (The Impossible),
Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game),
Judah Lewis (Demolition),
Matthew Lintz (Pixels),
Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire)
Charlie Rowe (Red Band Society).
The actors were all flown to Atlanta for the casting session as that is where Captain America: Civil War is currently filming. The meeting included Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal and the Russo Brothers who are currently directing Civil War. Can you imagine walking into that room? No pressure, right?
The article concludes that a decision “is expected to be made early in the week,” though they’ve been cautioned that “Marvel won’t like any of the choices and could keep looking.” This sort of leads us to believe that Sony has been leading the casting process and is bringing their finals to Marvel for selection and approval.
That being said, with Captain America: Civil War currently filming, it’s safe to say we should expect to hear something soon regarding casting.
