BAAAT! What We Do in the Shadows swooped in on Hall H on Sunday, July 24, 2022, for a fang-tastic panel. The cast and crew of the critically lauded FX comedy gave SDCC 2022 a much-needed undead makeover. If you thought Nadja’s vampire nightclub was hot, wait until you get a load of this panel!

So, who gathered their ancestral soil to make the trek cross-country to San Diego? Stars Kayvan Novak (Nandor), Matt Berry (Laszlo), Natasia Demetriou (Nadja), Harvey Guillén (Guillermo), Mark Proksch (Colin Robinson) and Kristen Schaal (The Guide), of course! Additionally, Paul Simms (executive producer/writer), Stefani Robinson (executive producer/writer), Yana Gorskaya (co-executive producer/director/editor) and Kyle Newacheck (co-executive producer/director) joined the cast for the proceedings.

After the panel treated lucky Comic-Con attendees to an exclusive screening of episode four, “The Night Market,” Simms teases the cast and crew didn’t endeavor to make “the biggest episode” yet, but that’s simply the result.

Novak follows Simms’s remarks with a highly suggestive explanation of the rehearsal process with Guillén. “Lot of hours of twiddling with my sword and playing with my sword and putting my sword up against Harvey’s sword,” he says. Take that as you will, my fellow Nandermo lovers.

Demetriou delves into the idea for Nadja’s, the hottest vampire nightclub (complete with blood sprinklers) to sweep Staten Island. “The reason we have the nightclub is because they’ve seen me dance. When you see a talent like that, you have to use it,” she remarks. I’ve watched her in Stath Lets Flats — I know talent when I see it. Additionally, Proksch teases his preparation process for portraying baby Colin Robinson.

“The process started with a series of bone marrow transplants. I still smell like spoiled milk and pull my pants down to urinate, but I’ve mostly recovered,” Proksch reveals. Meanwhile, the official Shadows Twitter account shares this snippet of dialogue from Berry without context: “Rats, raccoons, it’s the same thing? I love rats and raccoons; you can throw anything at me.”

Schaal tells the audience that The Guide’s journey could spawn in many directions this season, so “we’ll see.” Simms confesses he passed his ardent love for musical theater onto baby Colin Robinson, notably because people poked fun at him for it.

Guillén delivers a moving message to fans regarding the importance of representation. “Representation matters. Whether you’re Latino or POC, you want to see yourself onscreen, and it makes a difference. It’s goth, and it’s dark comedy, and there’s a lot of Latinos in this world,” he says.

Simms teases what’s to come for future episodes, revealing we can expect a bottle episode wherein we’ll see the gang in one room. Additionally, we’ll get a “boys’ weekend” outing with our guys in a cabin. Laszlo will tame animals with his flute (Maybe a sexual innuendo?).

Nadja and the Guardian hit a speed bump in the grand opening on What We Do In The Shadows

This bloodsucking panel unveils more fun announcements regarding what’s on this show’s horizon. Firstly, we’re meeting Guillermo’s family! Then, put on your best duds because you’re invited to a bona fide vampire wedding. Thirdly, Guillermo will embark on his path to love. Does this include Nandor? Probably not, but a girl can dream. Lastly, “don’t freak out.”

You’re too late on that last one, What We Do in the Shadows. I’m already in full freakout mode. Be sure to tune in every Tuesday for new episodes of What We Do in the Shadows on FX, with next-day streaming on Hulu.
