Are you ready to face the nightmares? During a panel at SDCC 2022, Netflix dropped the first full trailer for their upcoming adaptation of The Sandman. The ten-episode drama series is based on Neil Gaiman‘s DC Comic series of the same name and looks outright marvelous. We’ve gotten sneak peeks throughout the year, but this trailer features so much more. More Tom Sturridge leading the main role, more trippy nightmare fuel, and introduces more questions that we hope that series will answer before the end.

The story follows The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Sturridge), who lives in a world known as the Dreaming and dives shape to all our deepest fears and fantasies when we go to sleep. But when he is captured and held captive for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that change both the waking and dreaming worlds. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the mistakes he’s made over his vast existence. This puts him face to face with old friends and foes and meeting new both human and cosmic entities.

We’ve waited a long time for a live-action adaptation of The Sandman and have understood why, in this case, patience is vital. From everything we have seen so far, Netflix and Warner Brothers are on the right path. That is in part to Gaiman being heavily connected with the project itself, serving as executive producer. The trailer for The Sandman provides us with more backstory for the series and better looks at the characters coming to life. It’s exciting to witness peeks at the journey Dream will go on and also terrifying to see those who want to hurt him.

The best part of the trailer is how it sets the tone for what we can expect to see throughout the series. It’s dark and gritty but still shows off the fantasy elements of the show that will make it feel otherwordly. Sturridge is joined by Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis and Stephen Fry. The Sandman will also star Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vanesu Samunyai, John Cameron Mitchell, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Joely Richardson, Niamh Walsh, Sandra James-Young and Razane Jammal.

The Sandman is set to hit Netflix on August 5, 2022. Check out the full-length trailer below. Are you excited to dive into this world? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
