Life’s hard; we get it. Sometimes you aren’t dealt the hand you think you des—case in point – poor, poor Reginald. But things are about to get a lot weirder for him. Last night during SDCC 2022, SYFY showed off the first teaser trailer for their upcoming series Reginald the Vampire starring Spider-Man‘s Jacob Batalon in the lead role. The series is based on the book series by author Johnny B. Truant and features a world packed with beautiful, fit and vain vampires. And slushies. Tons and tons of slushies.

In the teaser for Reginald the Vampire, Reginald Andres struggles with his mundane life. He is asking God and baby Jesus (or grown Jesus – we don’t discriminate on age) for a refund. He is dealing with a bully manager at work plus a girl he loves but can’t be with. Oh, and some guy who shows up and turns him into a vampire and now wants him dead. You know –  teenager problems.

The teaser helps show off the balance between the typical tones we would find in a vampire drama with the feels of a comedy series. Reginald is such an unlikely hero that we can’t help but want the kid to succeed in life (and death). The teaser doesn’t go into much detail on why his vampire chieftain wants him dead other than some nods to him just not belonging. They are pretty vain vampires, after all. Hopefully, the full trailer for the series will give us a bit more of a look at the story they will be telling and the issues Reginald will face.

Alongside Batalon, Reginald the Vampire stars Em Haine, Mandela Van Peebles and Savannah Basely. The series is being led by showrunner Harley Peyton who has worked on Twin Peaks, Chucky and other vampire series. With names like these under Peyton’s belt, we have high hopes for this series. Newborn vampires looking to find themself in the world is a pretty common theme for vampire series, but this one has its own unique feels. So let’s hope that they are able to set themselves apart from the others and strike big in this genre.

Reginald the Vampire is set to debut on SYFY on October 5, 2022. We’ve dropped the trailer below for your enjoyment. Are you excited about this new vampire series? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
