Marvel Comics’ SDCC 2022 panel, “Next Big Thing Panel,” on Saturday, July 23, 2022, was filled to the brim with announcements about the future of Marvel Comics.
Attending this year’s panel was Marvel EiC C.B. Cebulski, Executive Editor Nick Lowe, editors Darren Shan and Lauren Bisom, alongside an incredible line-up of creators, including Jonathan Hickman (X-Men), Christopher Cantwell (Iron Man), Ram V (Venom, Carnage), and Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing (Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty) to announce news from the biggest Marvels titles coming to local comic shops for the second half of the year.
Here is a rundown of (some of) the most significant announcements out of Saturday’s panel!

Avengers Assemble!
Jason Aaron will unite all of his work on Avengers, Avengers Forever and Avengers of 1,000,000 BC into one epic Avengers Assemble! This union will begin with the November one-shot Avengers Assemble: Alpha with Bryan Hitch, before crossing over between Avengers and Avengers Forever issues.
Here’s what Aaron said about creating his capstone story and tying together his many contributions to the Avengers mythos:
“Four years of Avengers stories. Threads from really every major series I’ve worked on throughout my last decade and a half at Marvel, from Ghost Rider to Thor. It all leads to this. The biggest Avengers story I could possibly imagine. Featuring a cavalcade of characters from across creation. And I’m so deeply thrilled and honored that it all kicks off with an oversized Alpha issue that’s being drawn by the legendary Bryan Hitch, who I’m getting to work with here for the very first time.”

Editor Nick Lowe teased that this story goes big, and you are guaranteed to see your favorite Avenger in the narrative. “Avengers Assemble. Say the words like a prayer. It’s the only thing that can save you.”
Doctor Strange: Fall Sunrise
Fan favorite artist Tradd Moore (Silver Surfer: Black) announced a “trippy” Doctor Strange story. Even though in the current comic book continuity Strange is dead and Clea is currently Sorcerer Supreme (yes, that Clea), fans can expect a four-issue mini-series in which the good doctor awakens alone in a distant world.
“Lost of purpose and surrounded by danger, the wandering sorcerer must explore this land of blades and mystery to unravel arcane secrets and escape the deadly horrors that lie in wait!” reads the premise for Doctor Strange: Fall Sunrise #1 by Moore.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s highly-anticipated new solo series will arrive in December 2022, written by Nigerian American fantasy writer Jordan Ifueko (Raybearer) and drawn by Alba Glez (Marvel’s Voices: Comunidades). In Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1, the most intelligent person in the Marvel Universe, Lunella Lafeyette, will begin a brand-new era as she takes her place as one of its greatest heroes.

According to the panel, Moon Girl has lost Devil Dino and will have to team up with another Marvel hero in the new story to find him. The young hero has previously teamed up with Miles Morales. Could a second team-up be in their future? I hope so! We know she is teaming up with none other than Captain Marvel in Avengers & Moon Girl #1 written by Mohale Mashigo, with art by Diogenese Neves.
