In an SDCC 2022 panel moderated by Paul F. Tompkins on Friday, July 22, 2022, Marvel Studios Animation revealed plenty of information about their slate of upcoming animated Disney Plus streaming shows. The panelists included Brad Winderbaum (Marvel Studios head of streaming, television and animation) and Ryan Meinerding (head of visual development), and series creatives Beau DeMayo (X-Men ’97), Kirsten Lepore (I Am Groot), Jeff Trammell (Spider-Man: Freshman Year), and Bryan Andrews and AC Bradley (What If…? and Marvel Zombies).

Marvel Animation Revelations

One of the juiciest details revealed during the panel relates to Spider-Man. The show will be a prequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. It is confirmed to take place before Peter Parker was introduced in Captain America: Civil War. Furthermore, Norman Osborne will appear as Peter’s mentor. Given that Osborne becomes the Green Goblin, this could get awkward. Freshman Year is set to debut on Disney Plus in a sequel season, Spider-Man: Sophomore Year, which has already been confirmed.
