Among all the fun news and trailers coming out of SDCC this weekend, Disney and Marvel snuck a little gem right under our noses. During the Marvel Studios Comic-Con animation panel today, share the first trailer for the upcoming I Am Groot short animated series. And folks – it’s adorable. This isn’t the first time we have fallen in love with the super cute monosyllabic space hero, but it sure helped.
Groot was initially created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby. Recently, Groot (Vin Diesel) became popular again when he joined the Guardians of the Galaxy films. He is highly intelligent but can only ever say one phrase – I am Groot. Thankfully, those closest to him have been able to figure out what Groot is actually trying to say, which has led to some very heartful and very hysterical interactions. During the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, he sacrificed himself to save everything else and, in turn, was replaced by his son – Baby Groot.
I Am Groot is going to focus on the adventures of this young sapling. From the looks of it, they will take him across the galaxy and away from his friends. The trailer gives us a peek at a few of the adventures that he will be taking part in. This includes being terrorized by some really tiny hungry bugs. Thankfully that leaf is going to make Groot look like a literal tree god. The series will include five original shorts full of fun, laughter and, of course, a disco-dancing Baby Groot.
So, step aside, Baby Yoda and other super adorable baby aliens. A new sheriff is in town. I Am Groot is set to hit Disney Plus starting August 10, 2022. We’ve shared the trailer down below so you, too, can enjoy the adorable overload it brings. What are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
