During San Diego Comic Con‘s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves panel today, we learned about the upcoming adventure. From the classes everyone will be bringing to life the adventure of a lifetime. We finally have the info we have been waiting for. The journey is a heist set in a fantasy world that reminds us heavily of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. The story is brought to life by directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, both avid D&D players. During their interview with Entertainment Weekly, they shared how they just wanted to bring this world to life.
Yesterday, those attending the convention in person also had the chance to check out a pretty epic tavern experience. There, they had their first look at a quick video showing off a first look at the characters and the roles they are taking on. We learned previously that Hugh Grant would be playing Forge Fletcher, a rogue and the official antagonist of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. And he sure does look like someone who is ready to lie, cheat and steal his way to the top.

Chris Pine will be rocking out as the team’s bard. Justice Smith will be the team’s gifted sorcerer. Michelle Rodriquez will be crushing it as the barbarian. Sophia Lillis is our favorite class, the druid. And Regé-Jean Page will be showing off his skills as a paladin. What a team comp! We’ve got some heavy hitters, some heals and the damage dealers. Let’s hope they know how to work together to survive the journey ahead. Plus, the little glimpses we get at their outfits really help nail down that they understood that this is fantasy but meant to be fun and rewarding, much like a Dungeons and Dragons game.
The Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves panel kicked off with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look, and then Goldstein and Daley shared a bit more about their passion for the game before the rest of the cast joined them. It is pretty clear from their excitement and the way they chatted about the film that everyone is excited for the world to see it. Some members of the cast, Lillis being the veteran player, have dabbled in the realm of role-playing games or something similar, but others were walking into this blind. Some even – cough cough Grant – might have mixed up the British definition of dungeon master with the TTRPG definition.

During the panel, the cast confirmed that Wizards of the Coast worked closely alongside them throughout production to help bring authenticity to the film. This means we will see a plethora of our favorite monsters and even some iconic lore characters. Our heart is set on seeing Drizzt make an appearance at least once. Goldstein, Daley and the cast are also hopeful that Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is only the beginning of this epic adventure. The plan is to bring this world to life through multiple movies, and we couldn’t be more excited to see that happen.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit theaters on March 3, 2023. We’ve dropped the official poster down below. What do you think of this adventuring party? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
