Our time has come. Grab your adventuring gear and get ready to set off on the journey of a lifetime. During SDCC 2022‘s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves panel, we got the first official trailer for the upcoming film. We will go into more detail in a moment, but we needed to get this off our chest. This movie looks fantastic. We had moments of uncertainty and prayers to the gods that it wouldn’t be a campy mess. But from everything we have seen and what the directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley shared during the panel, we know it is in good hands.

The trailer for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves provides us with three essential things. First, it gives us our first look at these characters in action. The traveling party, more like thieves, is made up of. We have Chris Pine, the bard. Michelle Rodriquez, the barbarian. Justice Smith, the sorcerer. Sophia Lillis, the druid. And finally, RegΓ©-Jean Page, the paladin. We get a peek at how they interact together, on their own and in pretty intense situations. And personally, Lillis shapeshifting into an Owlbear and Page taking out some cultists are our highlights of this entire trailer.

The second thing the trailer introduces is a bit more information on the story of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Pine opens the trailer by giving us a bit of context to what is actually going on. Most importantly, this is a group of thieves. And sometimes, like everyone else, they make mistakes too. He has stolen something that has unleashed a terrible evil onto the world (pretty standard in any Dungeons and Dragons campaign), and now he needs them to help him stop it. We also get a glimpse at Hugh Grant‘s antagonist, who might be the one who sent Pine and the others down this dangerous path.

And finally, the third (and most important thing in our book) is the trailer helps set the tone for what we can expect from the movie. While we would love a story reminiscent of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, we knew this wouldn’t be it. But what we didn’t expect was this beautiful blend of campy humor and epic adventure the trailer introduces. It feels authentic to what a Dungeons and Dragons campaign feels like. The serious moments intertwined with poking fun at each other and roleplaying the flaws in your characters while also feeling like a major badass.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is shaping up to be everything we have been waiting for. Plus that Owlbear scene. Flawless. We learned during the panel that they worked alongside Wizards of the Coast to bring a level of authenticity to the film. So, of course, we get the chance to see a mimic, dragons, puzzles, dungeons, and so much more. And with the movie being tied into the canon lore of the game, chances are we might even see some iconic characters adventurers will have wait during their time campaigning. Our eyes are on the lookout for Drizzt.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit theaters on March 3, 2022. Check out the official trailer below. What do you think of Pine and his crew of thieves? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
