Flameo, hotman, and happy Comic-Con! Are you ready for some Avatar: The Last Airbender news? During the Avatar: Braving the Elements panel, fans got a big update about the subject of Avatar Studios’ first film, and we have the scoop.

If you haven’t heard of it, Avatar: Braving the Elements is the rewatch podcast by voice actors Janet Varney and Dante Basco. Jack De Sena aka Sokka joined Basco on the panel alongside Phil LaMarr, the voice of the Earth King. Varney was unable to attend in person; however, she made the panel’s most significant announcement in a video played for the crowd.

Varney said, “The first feature-length movie from Avatar Studios will be focusing on Avatar Aang and his friends, and I, for one, cannot wait!” While there weren’t any more specifics, later comments implied Aang and the gaang will be a bit older than they were in the series. Only time will tell if the film will feature any of the same voice actors or share any continuity with the graphic novel series by Gene Luen Yang.

In the video, Varney held a copy of the novel The Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee, a novel following Kyoshi’s early years as the Avatar. Was this a subtle hint at what else the studio is working on?

Avatar Studios, led by original creators and producers Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, was first unveiled last year. They announced an “Avatar universe” across multiple TV series, films, and platforms, but haven’t said much since.
