Amazon had a lot to share during their SDCC 2021 panel yesterday, including a release window for the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. Showrunner Sara Goodman chatted during the panel about why she chose this franchise to create her new series. Her reason? The title! She believes that even for those who have never read the novels (by Lois Duncan) or seen the movies, the title sticks with everyone. It invokes a sense of fear over the idea that you might have something to hide from other people.

Goodman also promised that I Know What You Did Last Summer will feature quite a bit of blood and gore that fans of the original film will enjoy. Plus, the season has easter eggs for die-hard fans to find along the way. The series is also new viewer-friendly too so don’t worry. Those who have never seen the film or read the book will be able to enjoy and understand what is going on. Over eight episodes, they were able to explore the characters as they deal with relationships, family issues and that pesky stalker.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer panel shifted from story to production as Goodman shared her experiences filming in Hawaii. Sounds great, right? Perfect vacation spot, beaches, tropical island, the list goes on. However, it turns out that they experienced massive flooding that would force them to have to relocate and winds that just so happened to pop up while filming on the cliffside. Overall though, it seems the pros outweighed the cons in the end.
The panel tied up with one final question – how would Goodman describe the series in just three words? Real, dysfunctional and completely unpredictable. I don’t need to hear anything else; sign me up! I’ve been a huge fan of Duncan’s novels and loved the film, so I have no doubts that this series is going to be right up my alley.
I Know What You Did Last Summer will hit Amazon Prime TV in October 2021. Cast members include Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck, Brooke Bloom and Bill Heck. We will also see Sonya Balmores and Spencer Sutherland. How excited are you for this series? Are you fans of the film or novel? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
