The Blade Runner series finally makes the jump to television with Adult Swim’s Blade Runner: Black Lotus. The trailer debuted during their panel at SDCC 2021 today. The show’s events take place between the events of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. Jason DeMarco, co-creator of Tonami and co-director of the series, moderated the panel. He was joined by co-director Shinji Aramaki, co-director Kenji Kamiyama, executive producer Joseph Chou, voice director Wes Gleason and Jessica Henwick. Henwick will be providing the voice for the series main character Elle.

They shared that Blade Runner: Black Lotus will follow a new replicant named Elle (Henwick/Arisa Shida), who was created for unknown purposes. The trailer sees Elle lost and confused. But when she finds herself in an alley surrounded by enemies, she manages to hold her own pretty well. The trailer continues on to show her possibly uncovering more secrets of her creation in between some pretty badass action scenes.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus will feature thirteen action-packed episodes that will bring this epic tale to life. At this moment, we don’t have an exact release date for the series other than this fall on Adult Swim and Crunchy Roll. So we could be looking at as early as September to as late as November. Either way, I am pumped for this story. The animation looks amazing and the tone of the trailer promises a mature series that looks to rival other entries in the Blade Runner franchise.

Check out the trailer below and the SDCC 2021 panel! There is tons to learn about this series before it hits our screens in the fall. Let us know how excited you are in the comments below and on social media! Let’s hope this series does well and we start to see more animated Blade Runner shows in the future!
