The Star Trek Universe Virtual Panel was earlier today and treated fans to panels from Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Picard. During the Lower Decks panel, Mike McMahan creator and executive producer of the new animated series, said the show takes place in 2380. It’s in the TNG era right after Star Trek: Nemesis but before events Star Trek: Picard. He also said the TNG era is where he feel most comfortable. I totally can relate to that.
McMahan shared a first look at Star Trek: Lower Decks and it is a treat! In it we see Ensign Boimler, played by Jack Quaid, get caught practicing a ‘Captain’s Log’ in a U.S.S. Cerritos closet by Ensign Mariner (Tawny Newsome) who may be a little drunk on illegal Romulan whiskey. She also does NOT know how to wield a bat’leth much to Boimlers chagrin.

The animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the support crew on one of Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380. Follow Ensigns Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Boimler (Jack Quaid), Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) and Tendi (Noël Wells), who try to keep up with their duties and their social lives, often while the ship is rocked by a multitude of sci-fi anomalies.
