Marvel has not been doing well over at Hulu since Disney Plus came onto the scene. Tigra and Dazzler, and Ghost Rider had the plug pulled and Marvel’s Runaways is no longer. Surprisingly to some, Hulu did hang on to Helstrom. 

As the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, Helstrom follows Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon), and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their own attitude and skills. In the comics, their father is Marvel’s version of Satan. So the siblings are basically half demons.

Earlier this month, Helstrom released the first images from the new series. Today, at their Comic-Con at Home panel, First Look at Hulu’s Helstrom, the first trailer from the series was revealed and, well, it looks okay. There wasn’t anything new or terribly exciting in the trailer to separate it from other series that are based on comic books. The one stand out in the trailer is Elizabeth Marvel who plays Daimon and Ana’s mother. I could watch her in anything. In fact, I’ll watch her in this. At least the first episode, no matter what I’m a sucker for shows based on comic books.

In the trailer, we see Daimon and Ana (short for Santana which was used in the comic), in a mental hospital walking up to their mother, Victoria, who is in a padded room. Victoria opens her mouth, and a very hellish and scratchy voice comes out. That part of the trailer was fun. After a few words are exchanged with “mommie dearest,” we see various scenes of the brother and sister facing evil supernatural forces.
