In a very commendable marketing plan, Tom Cruise surprised the Hall H audience with an appearance today to show the Top Gun: Maverick trailer. He appeared at the end of the Terminator: Dark Fate panel (same studio) saying, “I felt it was my responsibility to deliver for you,” the Top Gun trailer. Then Cruise posted the new Top Gun: Maverick trailer on Twitter. Ten minutes later Conan O’Brien’s show account, Team Coco, posted that Cruise was to be the surprise guest on Conan’s Comic-Con show tonight. Much excitement!

The Top Gun: Maverick trailer is full of longing and action. We see that Maverick has stalled out on his military career. After 30 years of service, he’s still a Captain when he should be a two-star admiral, this according to Ed Harris’ cranky high ranking military character. Maverick seems in a dark place and to never gotten over the death of his best friend Goose (Anthony Edwards). The only time we see excitement are when he’s flying in some very incredible looking action sequences, or when he on his motorcycle.

We get glimpses of the cast, Miles Teller who is playing Goose’s son, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Connelly. And, fun for OG Top Gun fans, we see his iconic Ray-Bans, a picture of Goose in his locker, group singing at a bar and……shirtless volleyball. Enjoy!
