Moderator Shelby Rabara (Peridot!) welcomed creator Rebecca Sugar, Deedee Magno Hall (Pearl), Michaela Dietz (Amethyst), Zach Callison (Steven) and Estelle (Garnet) to the Indigo Ballroom at Hilton Bayfront for Cartoon Network’s SDCC Steven Universe panel. Caution: Spoilers ahead!

The line for the panel was EPIC, and those who made it in were rewarded with the kind of ebullience one would hope for from the people behind this special show. There was dabbing, there was SOMETHING and there was a screening of the next episode, “Legs from Here to Homeworld.”
What we learned:
- The wedding of Ruby and Sapphire had been in the plans for a long time
- We may see them separate again in the future, but it will be their choice
- Steven is going to show the corrupted gems to the Diamonds in the hopes that they can help heal them
- Yellow Diamond believes Steven still has his mom’s memories somewhere
- Without spoiling the whole upcoming episode, let’s just say that the wait to meet White Diamond will be over soon, and that she never leaves home…
- White Diamond is inspired by the art of Nell Brinkley
- Rabara choreographed the dancing for the S3 episode “Mr. Greg,” and the tapping sounds were made by her
- Pearl is the character who has evolved the most, visually
- Steven Universe: The Movie – coming soon to Cartoon Network!
No release date was announced on new episodes, but rumors are running high that the episode screened today at SDCC might air as early as TODAY on CN, so fingers crossed!
Cartoon Network’s PR team captured some of Sugar’s thoughts on inspiration, so if you didn’t brave the line or make the cut, here’s a taste of what you missed:

Just like the Brooklyn Nine-Nine panel, the audience Q&A session turned into a teary love-fest with people sharing how much representation matters. Thank you, Steven Universe!
