Star Trek: Discovery beamed in to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. They brought a full complement of cast members, including new additions, and a behind-the-scenes crew. They also brought… donuts. That’s right. Cast members served donuts to unsuspecting fans waiting in line for Hall H on Friday morning. That’s just awesome.

Stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp, Mary Chieffo, Wilson Cruz and Anson Mount were there, along with executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin. Kurtzman is currently the only showrunner on Discovery, so his comments were of particular interest. Especially since we know that production on season 2 has been in progress since April of this year. Tig Notaro, who will appear as Chief Engineer Reno next season, served as moderator.
The panel started with Kurtzman who made a lovely, grateful speech and then showed the crowd a sizzle reel from season 2. You can see it at the end of this article!
“It’s been an amazing year – this unbelievable cast has been such a joy to work with on every level. On behalf of our incredible writers, production team, we have something to show you. Here’s a little taste of what you’ll be getting in Season 2 of #Discovery” #AlexKurtzman #SDCC

Kurtzman gave us all confirmation that Spock will, indeed, show up this season!!
Is Spock coming? 🖖 “I can tell you that, yes, you will be seeing Spock this season.” -Alex Kurtzman #SDCC2018 #StarTrekDiscovery

Wilson Cruz confirmed early in the panel that he will be returning in season 2. He declined to say how that will happen.
“Yeah. I’m not here just to say hello… although, hello.” on @wcruz73 confirming that he will be back on #StarTrekDiscovery #SDCC #StarTrek

Mary Chieffo commented on L’Rell’s role in season 2, and Mary Wiseman confirmed that Tilly has her eye on the captain’s chair.
“She is trying to be the best Chancellor she can be – of this patriarchal empire” @marythechief on L’Rell #SDCC #StarTrekDiscovery #StarTrek

“I think we know one thing that’s next for her… she’s going to keep trying to be a Captain, keep working towards that goal.” @may_wise on Tilly #StarTrek #StarTrekDiscovery #SDCC

Anson Mount gave us a surprise! Rebecca Romijn will play the original number one, from the unaired pilot of TOS “The Cage”. That role was originally played by Majel Barret Roddenberry, but NBC never let anyone see it. They had a negative reaction to a woman in such a high position. Gross.
“I’m just going to go ahead and reveal it. We’re going to go ahead and meet the original Number One.. Her initials are @RebeccaRomijn. And she’s great to work with!”-@ansonmount #SDCC #StarTrek #StarTrekDiscovery

Romijn confirmed the announcement with an awesome tweet.
Just call me “Number One!” Honored to play such an iconic character in #StarTrek Canon originally played by the First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett-Roddeberry! #StarTrekDiscovery pic.twitter.com/rdpWOxBYAk

And, Kurtzman addressed concerns or maybe just questions about the commitment Discovery has to canon.
In regards to #StarTrekDiscovery‘s ties to Star Trek canon, Alex Kurtzman says, “You will get those answers next season, guaranteed. You’re just not going to get them the way you expect them.” #SDCC2018
— Star Trek: Discovery (@startrekcbs) July 20, 2018
“Yes, there definitely will be. We’re syncing up with canon this year – so you’ll see quite a few” #AlexKurtzman responding to a fan’s question about any #StarTrek easter eggs #StarTrekDiscovery #SDCC

And, if you were wondering about Saru… Doug Jones confirmed that we’ll get some insight into his origins. We’ll get to see Saru’s home planet in season 2!
“As much as I love being Saru, my favorite part of the day is getting that make-up taken off. Also… wanted to say, we get to visit Saru’s home planet” @actordougjones #StarTrekDiscovery #StarTrek #SDCC
