Today we got our first look at Ready Player One, the film adaption of the Ernest Cline‘s novel of the same name. The Steven Spielberg helmed film is already at the top of people’s anticipation lists. We’ve only seen an image up till this point but now we have a taste of what’s to come.

Welcome to Oasis! A virtual reality kingdom filled with pop culture references and gaming galore! We see the Iron Giant and a DeLorean, battles on mechanic scorpions and so much more. It’s a world “where the limits of reality are your own imagination”. The hyper-styliztic world instantly grabs and pulls you in. While we briefly saw the Stacks, the main focus of the trailer was Oasis and more especially the car races. I need “Tom Sawyer” over every car race now, thank you.

The action and imagery are intense. There’s references in every corner and frankly it’s hard to see what everything is. But man is it a spectral! I cannot wait to see more of the story and more of the beautiful imagery. I’m hooked!
