Most of the Marvel news coming out of SDCC has revolved around the much anticipated debut of The Defenders on Netflix. However, the teams working at Marvel and Netflix also released some updates on the continual and frustrating exploits of Danny Rand (Finn Jones) over on Iron Fist.

The first season of Iron Fist received lukewarm reception at best when it debuted on Netflix in March. However, in an unsurprising reveal, Marvel announced that Iron Fist will return for a second season.

There will be some changes to the creative team as the second season takes shape. After wrapping Iron Fist, show runner Scott Buck moved over to helm the much anticipated ABC/Marvel series Inhumans

In his place, Marvel tapped television writer Raven Metzner to take over for Buck. Entertainment Weekly quotes Marvel Executive Jeph Loeb, “Raven’s love of all things Iron Fist and his extensive knowledge of martial arts films made him the perfect choice to continue telling the adventures of Danny Rand and Colleen Wing”.

Raven Metzner’s filmography details a number of years of television experience. He shows a flair for high-concept, genre shows like: Sleepy Hollow, Daybreak and Falling Skies. This is also not the first time Metzner teamed with Marvel. Metzner is one three writers credited on the 2005 Daredevil spin-off Elektra.

More information to come when Marvel announces the second season release date.
