Ever wonder what Krypton was like before it’s crumbling demise? SyFy will answer that with a new series set 200 years before the events that led to the planet’s destruction. Staring Cameron Cuffe as the grandfather to our favorite boyscout in blue, we’ll see how he establishes his family name.

The blood of House El will always bind us together. Cuffe plays Seyg-El, grandfather to Kal-El (Superman). And unfortunately, we don’t get to see too much of him in this teaser. We get to see the towering cityscape of Krypton along with a few of their technological achievements, but a lot is kept mum. There’s a bit of training and excitement in what seems to be portals but that’s it! Just the smallest taste possible of what’s to come.

It’s great for SyFy to use this time frame to get really creative but also be tied to something so beloved. Superman is an incredible icon, one that hasn’t been used very well in his latest outings. We’ve been needing the big boy scout, not the neck-snapping pouty flying man. So hopefully in this latest attempt, we’ll have a solid story on our hands. One thing that should be in the series is the meaning of their House symbol – hope. Will we get it? We’ll see in 2018.

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy). Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.

Krypton is currently set to debut sometime in 2018.
