They always come back for one more scare. Seriously, who couldn’t see this coming? After the success of last month’s release, the Scream franchise is getting another installment from Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures. But that isn’t all! Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will return alongside writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

The long-awaited fifth installment of the Scream franchise saw the return of Ghostface to the streets and homes of Woodsboro. Personally, it was everything I had hoped Scream 4 would have brought us. The twists, turns and shocking third arc brought me back to my days of the original Scream. Not to mention the way they were able to tie both the main plot and the smaller details into the original film was fantastic. But that wasn’t the only thing the movie did. It opened new doors for the franchise—introduced new characters and stories to move forward with.

RELATED: Check out why we can’t stop crushing on Sidney Prescott!

I will forever love Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and her role in the first four films. But it feels right for the torch to finally be passed on to a new final girl. And the film set us up with two of them (don’t worry, no spoilers here). I’m excited to see what kind of terror they can spin in this upcoming installment. And hopefully, since we are getting news now, we won’t have to wait another ten years to finally get the chance to see it on the big screen.

We aren’t the only ones who are excited, though. Writers Vanderbilt and Busick shared, “Is this real life? Getting to collaborate once again with our friends on the next installment of the Scream story is more than we could have hoped for. We are overwhelmed that we get to continue to play in the sandbox that Kevin (Williamson) and Wes (Craven) created. It is, as Ghostface would say, an honor.” Wes Craven would be proud of what these four brought to the table and I am excited to see what comes next.
