It feels like a lifetime ago that Paramount and Spyglass Media Group announced they were still on track to release another installment to one of the most beloved horror franchises ever – Scream. We had some exciting casting news last year with the return of Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette and newcomers before things got a bit quiet. But recently, the official Scream Twitter has gotten quite a bit busier. Just yesterday, we got our first look at the official movie poster! And then today, Entertainment Weekly exclusively dropped first look images from the new film.

The first look at Scream looks fantastic! Chills … literal chills. Not only did we get a glimpse at the franchise alum Campbell, Cox and Arquette, but everyone else as well! Mary Shelton, Deputy Judy Hicks from Scream 4, will be reprising her role in this film. And we also got our first look at newcomers Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sonia Ammar, Jack Quaid and Melissa Barrera. And honestly, would it be a proper first look if we didn’t get a shot of Ghostface? Just looking at him in a hospital setting is giving me goosebumps.
Everyone has been pretty hush-hush about what happens in Scream except that Campbell, Cox and Arquette play very prominent roles in this film. They also shared that the new killer donning the Ghostface mask has begun targeting teenagers to resurrect secrets from Woodsboro’s corpse-filled past. The franchise is known for mixing horror and comedy while poking fun at the overly used tropers of earlier franchises. I expect nothing less in this fifth installment. The real question comes down to trying to figure out which one of these new cast members gets the pleasure of wearing the mask? Or has one of our originals finally lost their mind? I guess we have to wait to find out!
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett hope that this new installment will live up to the late Wes Craven‘s work. The script is written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Kevin Williamson, the writer for three of the franchises’ films, will be serving as executive producer.
Scream will hit theaters on January 14, 2022! Just in time for some new year celebrations! We have dropped all of the first look images below for you to enjoy! What do you think about this next installment? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
