As someone who has spent copious amounts of time in NYC – it can be terrifying. Now add in one of the most terrifying killers in horror history, and you’ve got yourself a real tale of terror. If our first teaser for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Scream 6 wasn’t enough to scare our pants off, the new images from Entertainment Weekly are here to continue the job. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, direct the sixth installment of the beloved horror franchise.
The exclusive look from EW gave us six new photos that give us a peek into the horror. The first is of the core group from 2022’s Scream, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, who seem to be making a pact. Maybe take out Ghostface once and for all (again…)? Or perhaps something a little more lighthearted? The second is Courteney Cox doing what Gale Weathers does best – investigating. She looks to be in either a library or an old records room.
The third Scream 6 photo is of the sisters, who look out of breath and terrified. A possible Ghostface encounter on the streets of NYC? And the fourth image? Ghostface himself, of course. He seems to be in a house or apartment doing what he does best – slashing. The fifth picture shared is of a newcomer to the franchise, Dermot Mulroney. He looks to be the detective that is going to be handling the Ghostface case in NYC. Let’s hope he has the wherewithal to survive the terror.
And the final image is of one of our favorite returning members of the franchise, Hayden Panettiere. She appeared as Kirby Reed in Scream 4 and will be reprising the role in Scream 6. There is a lot of speculation about what happened to her after the events of the fourth film, and it looks like we are finally going to get those answers. The image doesn’t give too much away, but just seeing her back in action is enough to get us excited.
The EW piece also highlighted parts of their interview with Barerra, who shared how excited she is for everyone to enjoy Scream VI. She shared, “Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie. Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world. So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts of this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affect them. We get to really see that baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.”
One of the most terrifying things about the Scream franchise is how interconnected they are. We watched Sidney (Neve Campbell) face off against the masked killer through five movies. Each time, we saw how the constant battle affected her and the others around her. The franchise has always been more than just a slasher film; Scream VI is continuing that legacy.
Scream VI sees the return of Barrera, Ortega, Brown, Gooding, Cox, and Panettiere alongside newcomers Dermont, Tony Revolori and Samara Weaving. We will also see Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda and Josh Segarra.
Scream VI stalks into theaters on March 10, 2023. Check out the first-look images below. Who do you think is donning the Ghostface mask? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
