Earlier in the year, Netflix announced that the anime adaptation of Scott Pilgrim will reunite the actors from the cast of the 2010 cult classic big-screen adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The upcoming series has officially been dubbed Scott Pilgrim Takes Off in the new teaser trailer that dropped today.

So far we know that both of the leading actors, Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona Flowers) as well as many of the other cast members will return.  If you think this sounds impossible then open your eyes. Maybe you’ll see!

To the delight of fans everywhere, the series will include the voice talents of Kieran Culkin (Wallace Wells), Anna Kendrick (Stacey Pilgrim), Brie Larson (Natalie V. Adams), Alison Pill (Kim Pine), Aubrey Plaza (Julie Powers), Johnny Simmons (Young Neil), Mark Webber (Stephen Stills) and Ellen Wong (Knives Chau). They also include many of Ramona’s exes: Satya Bhabha as (#1, Matthew Patel), Chris Evans (#2, Lucas Lee), Brandon Routh (#3, Todd Ingram), Mae Whitman (#4, Roxie) and Jason Schwartzman (#7, Gideon Graves).

Besides all of that awesomeness, the teaser trailer looks amazing. It is visually stunning, with a simple art style that calls back to the graphic novel. The clean lines and bold colors are animated brilliantly into a polished yet nostalgic package.

I think we are in for another iconic soundtrack too, as most of the trailer focuses on Scott’s in-universe band, Sex Bob-Omb, singing what appears to be a brand-new song. This is intermixed with some moments of Ramona Flowers minding her own business while Scott looks on slack-jawed in a way that would have absolutely broken Tumblr in 201o.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off seems like it is willing to milk every ounce of nostalgia out of fans by hitting a lot of the same storylines that the 2010 film did. But what’s most exciting is that it looks like the anime will do something the film didn’t, adapting story arcs and battles Wright’s film omitted. For example, based on the trailer it would appear that Scott’s ex-girlfriend Envy Adams (Brie Larson) will play a more prominent role in the series. We also see snippets of a battle between Scott and Ramona’s ex-girlfriend Roxie Richter in a video store.
