Good morning fellow Webtoon readers and welcome to this week’s installment of Saturday Morning Webtoons! This is where we shine a light on two Webtoons we are thoroughly enjoying. These stories have had us captivated chapter after chapter each week and we couldn’t pass up sharing them with you! So grab your favorite snacks, an electronic device and settle into these sensational stories.
Junepurrr‘s fantasy romance SubZero follows the story of Clove, the last princess of a near-extinct Dragon clan. In order to protect her people, she is willing to sacrifice everything, including her own freedom. And when that option is laid right in front of her, she takes all of the risks without hesitation. She gives up everything to marry her greatest sworn enemy, Prince Kyro the Crimson Dragon. But can their union really bring an end to this war or will it only spark more problems? And more importantly, can the two dragons set aside their differences in order to move forward?
SubZero is one of my holy grail Webtoon reads. When people ask me for recommendations on what to read next, this is at the top of my list. It has everything from action, suspense, mystery and tons of romance. Not to mention it is packed with strong female characters that we absolutely love here. Clove isn’t just any old princess that has a dragon living inside of her. She is complex and has so many layers that it would take paragraphs to fully explain her. Not to mention her relationship with not only Kyro but other characters within the series is worth binging this for.
SubZero is currently on hiatus, but you can catch up reading it here!
The Makeup Remover
Sticking in the vein of romance, but dropping the fantasy portion brings us to Lee Yone‘s The Makeup Remover. The story follows Yeseul, a young girl who has spent her life being told that she needed to focus on her studies above all else. That is, of course, until she reaches college and everything changes. Now she is expected to pay attention to makeup and how she looks. Lost in the world of beauty, she meets brilliant makeup artist Yuseong who convinces her to take part in a televised makeup competition. Throughout, Yuseul really begins to question the role that makeup and appearance play in society.
Aside from being one of my favorite romance Webtoon reads, The Makeup Remover also delves into the ideas behind why makeup, beauty and one’s own appearance play such a large role in our society. The role of makeup in this story comes from a place of creativity and as an outlet for artists to express themselves. Yuseong and Yuseul grow together in their own ways and share their highs and lows together. Plus, watching how Yuseul grows alongside her fellow competitors and gains tons of courage in herself is amazing. It really is just one of those feel-good reads that make you so happy afterward.
The Makeup Remover updates every Tuesday and Friday and can be read here.
