Good morning fellow Webtoon readers and welcome to this week’s installment of Saturday Morning Webtoons! This is where we shine a light on two Webtoons we are thoroughly enjoying. These stories have had us captivated chapter after chapter each week and we couldn’t pass up sharing them with you! So grab your favorite snacks, an electronic device and settle into these sensational stories.
DISCLAIMER: This week’s post has potential spoilers for Socializing101 and Heartstopper. It is also important for us to point out that these Webtoons deal heavily with mental health and situations that can be triggering. Please proceed carefully.
Fantasy and supernatural Webtoons that transport you to different worlds can be great. But sometimes, it’s the ones that hit close to home that really pull at our heartstrings. Relseiy‘s Socializing101 happens to be one of those webtoons. Ever since Mihai was young, he was intimidated and socially awkward. This kept others away, but he preferred it this way. He liked sticking to his close social circle: his grandmother, two friends and his cat Muffins. But that all changes when he starts University and a new neighbor moves in next door that is his exact opposite.
Socializing101 tackles several mental health conditions in a way that feels natural. As someone who has struggled with depression and social anxiety, I see myself in Adilene and Mihai. I sympathize with Mihai when he struggles with his social anxiety in school. There is a little arc that deals with him having to put together a presentation and I knew exactly how he felt getting up in front of everyone to talk. Watching Mihai and Adilene work together to overcome their social issues is a heartwarming experience.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman is a coming-of-age story about friendship and love between two high school boys in England. Charlie, a highly-strung openly gay over-thinker, meets Nick, a cheerful soft-hearted rugby player, when they become seatmates. Friendship strikes instantly between the two and they start spending more and more time together. Charlie clearly has a crush on Nick, but could Nick ever return the feelings? As the two navigate their social and romantic lives, they are surrounded by a community of friends and loving allies.
This heartwarming LGBT+ webtoon is a must-read for everyone. Charlie and Nick are charming characters and relateable. Charlie struggles with how the school treats him as being the only openly gay student, while Nick is coming to terms with his own sexuality. Heartstopper features a diverse cast of characters who help progress the story forward and support Nick and Charlie when others would rather see them hurt. I suggest jumping in and getting caught up to date quickly; Netflix has already greenlighted a live-action adaption!
