Betwixt

We’ve got supernatural spooks on the brain for this week’s Saturday Morning Webtoons! Our first series by Harihtaroon may be new, but it has had us captivated from the very beginning. Betwixt follows Alex, the leader of an extremely popular band, ready to catapult them to the next level with his new song. That is until he finds himself trapped between the worlds of the living and the dead with no clue how to get back to his body. Now his only hope is in Sasha, a medium who doesn’t want anything to do with the supernatural world.
I’ll be honest; I wasn’t exactly sure how to feel when Betwixt kicked off on WEBTOON. The idea of being stuck between the world of the living and the dead isn’t a new concept, and most of the time tends to feel a bit drawn out. But I am always willing to give a series a chance, and I am so thankful I did. First off, Alex and Sasha are hysterical together and separate. Plus, the different parts of the story – Alex’s soul issue, the guys and the band, Sasha’s own struggles – all work well together and make the overall story interesting. It’s still new, so now is the perfect time to become obsessed with it!
Betwixt updates every Thursday and can be read here!

Firebrand

Our second WEBTOON series of the week is Jessica Chobot, Erika Lewis and Claudia Aguirre‘s Firebrand. The series follows Natali Presano, who has never fit into her father’s perfectly human world. After her mother’s death, she fled to the safety of her aunt Selena, a mysterious guardian of a magical order waging a century old-war in Spain. Years later, Natali returns to Seattle, now a powerful witch in her own right and is stuff between the cruel modern world and the ancient evil threatening to destroy everything.
Firebrand is one of those stories that will break your heart in the beginning but do everything in its power to help piece it back together. It does a terrific job of balancing Natali’s emotional journey, action, a magic system and world along with the general everyday situations. Plus, the art style lends to taking this incredible story to the next level and providing a uniqueness that sets it apart from the others. Plus, if you are someone (like me) who loves to collect the physical copies of WEBTOONs, you can find one for Firebrand through Legendary.
Firebrand is completed and can be read in full here!
