Deadline broke exclusive news today from Warner Bros for DC Universe‘s upcoming film The Flash. They have officially cast Sasha Calle in the role of Supergirl. She was chosen out of 425 actresses who auditioned for the role. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Calle will be the first Latina Supergirl ever in DC.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti watched all the auditions alongside Walter Hamada and the producers. He shared that all actresses did not know what they were auditioning for until late into the process. Muschietti and the others were blown away by Calle’s audition. She brought toughness and vulnerability to the role and did well in her chemistry read with Ezra Miller.

Calle won’t be the only other superhero joining Miller’s Flash. We learned during DC Fandome back in August 2020 that Ben Affleck would be reprising his role as Batman in the film. But that isn’t all either! We will also be seeing Michael Keaton reprise his role as Batman from Tim Burton‘s franchise. And we all know that two Batmans are better than one. Seeing these two really makes sense as The Flash will involve traveling between universes, which means we could see plenty of different heroes from both the film franchise and TV.
Muschietti broke the news to Calle in a Zoom call he shared on his Instagram. It’s so heartwarming to watch how excited she is. All of the auditions and chemistry reads were done through Zoom calls. Calle will be heading off to join the team to start filming soon.
The Flash is set to hit theaters in 2022. Check back with us for more exciting news!
